Under the motto ‘sharing and borrowing instead of buying’, Vonovia is piloting product rental via digital sharing boxes at two locations in Dortmund in cooperation with kolula. In the Insterburger Siedlung and Kreuzviertel districts, residents can rent everyday items such as tools, household appliances or leisure items via the so-called ‘leihbar’. The products can be conveniently booked for a fee via an app and then collected from and returned to the sharing boxes. The underlying system has a modular design so that it can be expanded to include other use cases.

With the development of staff-free, automated rental stations for stand-up paddle boards, kolula is a pioneer in the digital rental of sports equipment. The specially constructed and designed stations are successfully operated in three European countries. The tried and tested system has been used by over 40,000 satisfied customers and is the model for many similar concepts that have been developed in recent years. Building on that technology and the real-world experience from SUP rental, kolula is continuously enhancing the software and the associated solutions.
